Description
Wine & Soul's Pintas is as fine an example of a cellar-worthy, dry Douro red as we have tasted. It is produced from a 91-year-old, field-blend vineyard planted to more than 40 indigenous grape varieties. That jaw-dropping little detail accounts no doubt for the depth and complexity this beauty delivers. Delicious now with grilled meats and aged cheeses, it will reward the patience of those who set a few bottles aside for a future evening. The harvested fruit is foot-trodden in traditional stone lagares during the 10-day fermentation. Malolactic fermentation and aging take place in French oak barrels for approximately 20 months. Production in 2021 was 6,100 bottles (750ml), 300 Magnums and a handful of larger formats. If you ever have a chance to visit the Douro, Sandra Tavares de Silva and her husband Jorge Serodio Borges—both winemakers—are lovely people . . .
