Bartender Emilio Rocchino started Macchia in 2015 making Vermouth in the style of Torino. Vermouth originated in Torino in 1786 and at that time Sardina and Piedmont were both part of the Kingdom of Sardinia. He thoughtfully re-connects the two regions using native ingredients from both regions in his modern take on traditional Vermouth. Primary Botanicals: 18 including mirto leaves and berries, cinchona, bitter orange, Roman artemisia, grapefruit, aloe, gentian, rhubarb, bay.
Blend of Piedmontese Cortese and Sardinian Moscato, plus 18 individually infused botanicals, for as long as 120 days before blending. Bright and herbal, persistent bitter finish with amaro-like characteristics. Manhattan game-changer! 15% sugar, or half the usual amount. The union between selected white and aromatic Sardinian wines, fragrant herbs, leaves and myrtle berries and crystalline sugar generates a classic red vermouth. The slow maturation in steel tanks gives the product an amazing garnet color with amber and violet reflections that elegantly accompanies the nose the classic wine olfactory imprint supported by hints of Mediterranean scrub and wild berries. At the moment of tasting it releases all its elegance, opening itself in a slight alcoholic embrace that is a prelude to a long and satisfying persistence, rich in subtle spicy and bitter returns.
The intense sensations of fresh myrtle, vanilla and citrus fruit are captured on the nose, all wrapped in a delicate caramel mantle.
