MONTHLY WINE CLUB SELECTION

Masseria del Feudo is a fourth-generation Cucurullo family estate in the rolling hills near Caltanissetta, in central Sicily, where vines have been cultivated since 1860. Today, siblings Francesco and Carolina unite inherited agricultural traditions with a research-minded approach, farming 15 hectares of certified-organic vineyards at roughly 480 meters elevation and vinifying in the restored buildings of the historic masseria. The estate is particularly associated with its pioneering Chardonnay plantings in Sicily, while also championing indigenous varieties such as Nero d’Avola.

100% Nero d’Avola drawn from the estate’s young, Guyot-trained vineyard in central Sicily, rooted in medium-textured clay soils. The grapes were hand-harvested in the second half of September, then destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with a 14-day maceration to draw color, fragrance, and tannin from the skins. After racking, the wine spent six months in cement vats before a short period of bottle refinement, preserving the variety’s vivid fruit and energetic freshness rather than emphasizing oak.

Bright ruby in color, with aromas of ripe red cherries, strawberries, and raspberries accented by an intriguing note of burnt orange. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, with supple tannins, fresh acidity, and a gently savory finish.
