Description
Founded several generations ago, Domaine Gerard Fiou is a small family domaine in the east of the Sancerre appellation in the town of Saint Satur. Home to only a handful of producers, the soil there is unique in that it has a high percentage of silex (flint), which typically associated with Pouilly Fumé, which lies just across the Loire river. Only 15% of the Sancerre appellation has these special silex soils, which combined with unusually old vines, means memorable Sancerre with a distinct, intense, mineral expression. The domaine has just under 10 hectares under vine, and has been certified organic as of the 2023 vintage.
100% Pinot Noir from 60-year-old vines. This is a saignée rosé which was bled off after 48 hours of cold maceration. Vinified in temperature-regulated stainless-steel tanks and aged for four months on the fine lees.
Mineral-infused aromas of ripe red berries and tropical fruit. The palate is tart yet fruited, with flavors of red cherry, raspberry, pineapple and watermelon. Fresh, clean and balanced with a long, textured, minerally finish.
