Description

Cotat's 'La Grande Cote' Sancerre is considered the 'Grand Cru' of his vineyard designated wines, and while they are all extremely age worthy, this particular bottling likely has the longest life ahead of it. It shows the typical weight of Cotat's wines which comes from the fact that he picks his organically farmed grapes a full week later than most so he can push the ripeness levels and the fact that the wines are barrel fermented in old demi-muids (larger oak barrels than barrique) and aged in even larger, neutral tonneaux. However, that does not mean his wines are oaky fruit bombs. They are just the opposite showing bright citrus driven fruit flavors and fetching minerality. North Berkeley Imports who imports the wines refers to La Grand Cote as, "combining the mineral finesse of ‘Monts Damnés’ with the supple flesh of ‘Beaujeu.’ Plush and steely at once. A treasure for the cellar."
