Description
Dick & Deidre Shea first planted Pinot Noir vines in what is now called the Yamhill-Carlton AVA in Willamette Valley in the late 1980s. Today, the Shea vineyard is a 200-acre property planted to 140 acres of vines, 135 of which are planted to Pinot and 5 to Chardonnay. They sold their fruit to many of the top producers in Oregon for about 10 years and decided to start making wine under their own Shea Wine Cellars label. Even now they only use 25% of the fruit for their wines and continue to sell the balance to others. The best example of Shea Vineyard as a whole in any given vintage is the Estate Pinot Noir. Pulled from every block of the vineyard we use for our own production, the Estate embodies the intense yet complex nature of Shea Pinot noir.
