Description
Gramercy Cellars was founded in 2005 by Master Sommelier Greg Harrington and his wife, Pam, following a transformative tasting of Washington State wines. Harrington, who at age 26 became one of the youngest people to pass the Master Sommelier exam, left a prominent career managing elite restaurant wine programs in New York City to pursue winemaking in Walla Walla. Along with partner and co-winemaker Brandon Moss, who joined in 2008, the team focuses on crafting Rhône and Bordeaux-style wines that emphasize "Old World" elegance, balance, and earthy complexity over high alcohol and heavy oak. Today, the winery produces roughly 8,000 cases annually, sourcing fruit from a combination of estate vineyards and premier regional growers who share their commitment to minimalist intervention and sustainable farming.
The 2021 vintage of the "Lower East" Syrah is a fresh and inviting expression of the Columbia Valley, characterized by its judicious restraint and bright fruit profile. On the nose, it offers a vibrant medley of Bing cherry, blackcap raspberry, and huckleberry, accented by savory undertones of thick-cut bacon, tobacco leaf, and green olives. The palate is noted for its silky texture and medium-bodied structure, revealing layers of boysenberry pie, dark currant, and blackberry mingled with spices like cinnamon and black pepper.
