After years managing his family's estate, Denis Jeandeau launched his own domain in 2005 with a single hectare in Viré-Clessé. He gained recognition as one of the Mâconnais region's most exciting young talents, practicing strict biodynamic farming and expanding his production into Pouilly-Fuissé. Denis was widely regarded as a rising star and a "young comet" of Burgundy. He tragically passed away in the summer of 2023. Because his estate operated on an incredibly small scale (cultivating roughly 5 hectares total across multiple appellations), bottles from back-vintages like 2017 have become increasingly rare and highly sought after by collectors.
This exceptional Viré-Clessé comes from a west-facing, hillside vineyard overlooking the village of Viré. Planted in 1971 at an altitude of 260 meters, the old vines grow in a unique terroir of marl and Bajocian limestone. Refined and complex, this wine opens with vibrant citrus, lemon zest, green apple, fresh mint, and toasted brioche. The palate is textural, round, and elegant, showcasing a deep concentration of stone fruits balanced by a razor-sharp, chalky mineral core and mouthwatering acidity. It concludes with a lengthy, precise, and notably saline finish, delivering an energy and elegance that is unusually delicate for a Mâconnais white wine.
