Ruinart is the oldest house in Champagne, exclusively producing Champagne since 1729. As they proclaim, "Chardonnay is the very soul of Ruinart" which is so beautifully expressed in this classic 100% Chardonnay or Blanc de Blancs Champagne. The color of the wine alone, which shows itself proudly in the clear bottle, indicates the lovely delicate tone the wine exudes with subtle aromas of fresh lemon citrus, white flowers and even white peaches as Ruinart confirms. The texture on the medium bodied palate is not exactly creamy but quite smooth and almost velvety. We hear a lot about wines with a silky finish, but this Champagne truly embodies that lingering silky note that glides down the tongue with such ease and grace. This is a refined, elegant Champagne with tremendous finesse, and it's worth every cent of its $95.00 price tag.

Champagne Ruinart was founded by Nicolas Ruinart; and named after his uncle, Dom Thierry Ruinart, who was a Benedictine monk with an interest in enology, the year after the 1728 Edict of Louis XV which authorized the transport of wine in bottles. Prior to that, wine could only be transported in barrels, which obviously made it impossible for Champagne to be enjoyed outside of Champagne. The first bottles of Ruinart Champagne were offered as gifts to clients of the family’s cloth business, but six years later the Ruinarts sold that business because sales of their Champagne were so successful.
