Description

This non-vintage Pierre Peters Blanc de Blancs is one of our long time classic favorites when it comes to high quality, well crafted Champagne and always has a proud spot on our shelf. Pure Chardonnay fruit with a good amount of body and complexity and excellent acidity. The finish is long, tingly and elegant, just like the classic bottle. The Peters are a six generation family, originally from Belgium, that has been officially producing Champagne in the small but rarefied village of Le Mesnil Sur Oger in the Cotes des Blancs since 1919. In fact, it was that year when Camille Peters, grandson of founder, Gaspar Peters, became one of the first growers in Champagne to "decide to harvest, handle and sell bottles under his name" and not simply sell his grapes to the big Champagne houses, thus making him one of the original Champenois "grower-producers." By 1932, a young 12-year-old, Pierre Peters, was already helping in the family business, attending tasting exhibitions and developing sales. Twelve years later in 1944, Pierre tragically had to take over for his father, Camille, who suddenly passed away. Pierre released his first Champagnes in 1946 under the Pierre Peters name and ran the company until health issues forced him to transfer the business to his son, Francois, in 1967. Over the next 40 years, Francois presided over tremendous sales growth and expanded the estate holdings to 17.5 hectares of prime Grand Cru vines. Rodolph Peters has managed Champagne Pierre Peters since 2007 and is shepherding the estate into the 21st century.
