Description

When Omer Vander Ghinste established Brouwerij Omer Vander Ghinste in 1892, he gave his beers his own name, as this was common in those days. He promoted his beers by placing stained-glass windows with the words “Bieren Omer Vander Ghinste” in the front windows of the pubs. As these windows were very expensive, it was no option to replace them at every change of generation. Therefore, every firstborn son was baptised ‘Omer’. This family grounding has always been the basis for the dynamic and creative enterprise that typifies the brewery. This is evidenced by the launch of the Jacobins Gueuze in 1970, the Jacobins Kriek in 1983, the Jacobins Framboise in 1986: three great beers brewed with young and old lambic.

Cuvée des Jacobins Rouge is a Flemish Sour Ale, red in color, with a beguiling balance of malty sweetness and acidic sharpness. It is made from spontaneously fermented and barrel-aged beer of at least 18 months in age. The beer is cooled overnight in a large, shallow metal vessel called a coolship and then fermented and aged in large oak foeders which are made in France and assembled on-site at the brewery. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer. ABV: 5.50%
