Description

The ‘double’ in Boatyard Double Gin refers to the distillation process and a purist’s approach of placing juniper at both the start and end of the process. The juniper first rests in wheat spirit in the still along with other organic botanicals. The final spirit then flows through juniper once again in their vapor chamber. This double contact method, which Dutch genever distillers would term ‘dubbel gebeide genever,' results in a more pronounced juniper flavor. The use of the wheat spirit imparts a silky and round mouthfeel with subtle sweet notes. Juniper is bright throughout but well integrated with the other 8 botanicals used, including licorice root, citrus and locally grown sweet gale. The finish is long with a slight pepperiness.

The Boatyard Distillery is situated on the banks of Lough Erne, County Fermanagh, North West Ireland. Boatyard is Fermanagh’s first legal distillery since 1890. The story began with a dream in 2013 when founder Joe McGirr imagined returning home to his native Enniskillen. Joe grew up on a nearby dairy farm, and the McGirr family is always a part of what Boatyard does. The distillery takes its name from the disused boatyard that it’s built on. It is unique as a distillery, as visitors can arrive just as easily by boat as they can by car.
