The legacy of Kathryn Kennedy lives on through her son, Marty Mathis, who continues to craft highly regarded Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in Saratoga, where Kathryn first planted vines over 30 years ago. While the estate wines are legendary for their fine ageability, Marty conceived of the Lateral Red Blend as the Kathryn Kennedy wine that is more approachable and ready to drink upon release. He was inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux, specifically St-Emilion, with an increasing emphasis on Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and now sources his fruit from Napa Valley.
