Description
Domaine Ballot-Millot is a historic estate based in Meursault with roots dating back to the mid-17th century. The modern iteration of the winery was solidified in 1901 when the Ballot and Millot families united through marriage, bringing together prime parcels across Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Volnay. Since 2001, the domaine has been led by Charles Ballot, who has garnered critical acclaim for shifting the style toward a more precise, mineral-driven aesthetic. Under his direction, the winery has moved away from heavy new oak and chemical fertilizers, focusing instead on organic practices and low-intervention winemaking to highlight the distinct terroir of their old-vine holdings.
On the palate, the 2023 Bourgogne Aligoté is vibrant and linear, defined by a "chiselled" structure and high, mouth-watering acidity typical of the Aligoté grape. The nose opens with a bouquet of lemon zest, green apple, and white orchard blossoms, underpinned by a distinct flinty minerality. While the wine is light-bodied and electric, the use of 50-year-old vines provides a subtle mid-palate weight and a touch of saline complexity that lingers on the finish. It is an energetic, high-tension white that captures the freshness of the 2023 vintage without the heaviness often found in riper years.
