Christoph Wolber and Alexander Gotze met while working at several of Burgundy's top domaines. They both studied oenology in Burgundy as well, and are thus steeped in all things Pinot Noir. In 2018, they joined forces and returned to Germany to start Wasenhaus. Baden is the warmest corner of Germany, and is across the Rhine from Alsace in the NE Corner of France. We visited the region just before the pandemic and were struck in particular by the quality of Baden Pinot Noir. As Burgundy seems to keep getting more and more expensive, it is useful to find alternatives that deliver similar nuance and complexity. That is what you will find in this 2022 vintage—lifted red fruit, savory herb notes, bright acidity, a touch of earth and the barest hint of oak, all on an elegant and graceful frame.
