Description
Nicolas Potel produces some of the most sought-after wines in the Burgundy region. Nicolas learned the art of winemaking on his family’s estate in Volnay. In 2005, he established his own winery, Domaine de Bellene, and in 2008, he launched Maison Roche de Bellene, his negociant business. Nicolas blends traditional and modern techniques by using grapes from old vines and biodynamic and organic farming methods. The vines utilized in this bottling range in age between 50 and 70 years old and sprawl across clay and limestone soils throughout Chambolle-Musigny. The grapes are hand harvested before a cool maceration for 7 days. Native yeast fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel before the grapes are slowly and gently pressed. This wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation and is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, of which 20% is new. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration. Aromatically, the wine gently lifts from the glass with notes of dusty, just-ripened red berries and wet bramble. On the palate the wine is beautifully rounded with savory notes of dried meats, bright acidity, and a hint of baking spice.
