Description
This small winery has been quietly making quality wines in Westhofen since 1763. Like its two more famous neighbors, Keller and Wittmann, Groebe is a member of the prestigious VDP. No fertilizer is used, and natural vegetation is allowed to grow between the vines. Natural yeasts, large used oak casks and long fermentation do the work in the cellar. Resembling an amphitheater, rising to 150 m and opening towards the Rhine in the south-east, the Kirchspiel site is perfect for great Rieslings. Protected from cold winds, the vines, which are up to 30 years old, were able to produce fully ripe grapes again in the 2022 vintage. Typical are the citrus and apricot notes in combination with light flint nuances and the self-contained minerality of the limestone and the clay marl. A white wine full of character and depth with a long, intense finish.
