Description

Established in 1835, Domaine Matrot is a historic family estate in Meursault that has spanned six generations of winemaking. The modern identity of the domaine was solidified by Joseph Matrot, who moved to the current family home in 1914 and expanded the estate's vineyard holdings. His son Pierre further modernized the cellars before his own son, Thierry Matrot, joined in 1976 and famously shifted the estate toward organic viticulture by eliminating chemical fertilizers. While the labels often still bear the names of Thierry and his wife Pascale, management of the domaine passed to their daughters, Adèle and Elsa Matrot, in 2016, marking a new era of female leadership for one of the village's most important properties.

The 2021 Meursault is a refined, "broad-shouldered" village-level wine blended from 12 distinct parcels that showcases the energy and precision of a cooler, frost-impacted vintage. On the nose, it offers a flinty and tight profile with aromas of white flowers, mineral reduction, and citrus zest, complemented by subtle hints of summer hay and discreet wood. The palate is characterized by an energetic, medium-bodied texture that balances ripe orchard fruits like pear and peach with a racy, citrus-tinged acidity. This leads to a persistent and bone-dry finish marked by a clean, chalky minerality and a touch of phenolic grip that promises a few years of graceful aging in the bottle.
