Description

The Obsidian Ridge vineyard was planted in 1999 on an abandoned walnut grove high atop the ridge of the Mayacamas Mountain Range in Lake County. The 105-acre vineyard starts at an elevation of 2,300 feet and goes up to 2,640 feet elevation, the highest part of the Mayacamas that begins further south in Napa Valley. Michael Terrien, the former winemaker for Acacia, co-founded a partnership with Arpad and Peter Molnar, whose family planted the vineyard. Together they produce small lots of Cabernet and Syrah from this mineral rich, volcanic red soil, in the Red Hills appellation of Lake County.

This 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon shows deep, dark and very mineral-driven notes with loads of black fruit aromas and flavors. It is still a full-bodied, intensely concentrated Cabernet with smoky, meaty notes and firm tannins on a long, black pepper filled finish.
