Description

Tokaj was once one of the world’s most prestigious wine regions; its top Aszú and Esszencia dessert wines were among the world’s most coveted and expensive. Yet two world wars devastated Tokaji’s traditional European markets, and the decline continued under Communist rule. Its fortunes have ebbed and flowed, but when American businessman Anthony Hwang, who also owns Domaine Huet in the Loire, bought the estate in 1997, he partnered with renowned local winemaker István Szepsy, and together they started to rebuild the quality and reputation of the estate, including launching this dry Furmint. Furmint—the signature grape of Hungary—is a unique, distinctive variety with a flavor profile quite unlike any other. Traditionally, Hungarian Furmint is sweet; however, the dry varietal Furmint has grown in popularity and production, producing fine, complex and ageworthy whites. The Királyudvar Tokaji Frumint Sec is a stunning example of this style. Bursting with aromas of lime cordial, Seville orange, and a strong mineral character. It displays beautiful tension, with bright acidity on the palate and vibrant flavors of citrus peel, spices, and white pepper.
