Description
The Ghost Block name was inspired by the Ghost Block Single Vineyard which overlooks the 165 year old George C. Yount Pioneer Cemetery at the north end of Yountville. The Cabernet Sauvignon from this vineyard, however, isn’t scary at all – it is delicious with just the right amount of fruit, balance and structure.
This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon with the same plush yet well balanced fruit and still abundant structure. The grapes that go into this wine come from Ghost Block's 30 year old, Rock Cairn Vineyard, which is of course 100% organic as are all Ghost Block estate vines. It is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot and was aged for 24 months in 60% new French oak barrels. Even with all that new oak, the wine does not impart any oaky overtones and just reveals the wonderfully plush, lush fruit we've come to expect. The family describes the wine as follows, "Intense, overt aromas of bright raspberry & hints of cassis and mint jump out of the glass. The wine is classic Napa Cabernet on the palate with enticing flavors of red fruits and dark mocha; lengthened by the integrated floral notes of violets and rose petals. These silky tannins make this wine very approachable and ready to drink upon release."
