Description
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776 in the stunningly beautiful Franschhoek Valley about an hour’s drive from Cape Town. As such it is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa, where vineyards were first planted in the 1600’s. In our experience, South Africa’s wine often seems to have one foot in the old world and one in the new, and that is certainly the case here. Tasted blind, this elegant Cabernet Sauvignon would have us pondering whether we were in Bordeaux or California, and not sure where to land. Previous vintages included fruit from Stelllenbosch, but the 2020 is 100% Franschhoek. 14% is Cabernet Franc. 80% of the oak used was new barrel, but the wood influence is beautifully integrated into the wine. This vintage drinks well now, but has the structure and balance to age for 10-15 years when properly cellared. - Peter Granoff, MS
