In addition to the legendary estate Cabernet Sauvignon and always popular Lateral, Marty Mathis, son of the late Kathryn Kennedy, also bottles a Small Lot Cabernet Sauvignon “to make the most of multiple Santa Cruz Mountains vineyard sources whose grapes arrive at our crush pad in very small lots. The natural affinity of this local terroir combined with micro-man-aged vineyard care leads to the highest quality Cabernet Sauvignon raw materials. This wine was vinified using the same small scale techniques we employ for our other great wines. Fermented in open top vats with hand punchdowns then aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels for 12 months.” Like all Kathryn Kennedy wines, this delicious Cabernet is beautifully balanced yet very well structured for the long haul, though perhaps not as long-lived as the Estate. It shows the 2019 vintage well and is quite a bargain for a Kathryn Kennedy wine!
