Description

Produced by Cascina Baricchi, a small family estate in Neive led by the visionary Natale Simonetta, this wine is a tribute to a nearly extinct piece of Piedmontese history. Natale’s father purchased the property in 1979, but it was Natale who shifted the focus toward the rare Nebbiolo Rosé clone found in their historic "Casasse" vineyard, where some vines date back to 1913. While most producers replanted with more productive clones, the Simonetta family preserved this unique genetic variant, which is prized for its ethereal aromatics rather than deep color. The 2019 Riserva undergoes an incredibly patient aging process, spending four years in large, neutral oak casks, followed by two years in the bottle, ensuring the wine retains its delicate character while developing profound structural complexity.

On the palate, the 2019 "Rose delle Casasse" is a "perfume bomb" that defies the typically rugged reputation of Barbaresco Riserva. It opens with an intense, high-toned bouquet of sweet red cherries, crushed rose petals, blood orange zest, and a hint of minty spice. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied, balancing vibrant acidity with fine-grained, dusty tannins that provide a persistent, elegant finish. Expect a wine that leans into the floral and savory side of the Nebbiolo spectrum—reminiscent of kirsch and dried herbs—offering a translucent ruby color and a silky texture that is approachable now but built for decades of cellar aging.
