Description

Great Riesling, particularly bone dry Riesling from Alsace in NE France is, in our view, one of the most overlooked of fine white wines. And when we find a Grand Cru bottling that is not only classic, with precise stone fruit and etched minerality, but at a very attractive price, we have to jump. And as the following winery comments indicate, Praelatenberg is a very old vineyard site with an amazing history and pedigree. Producer Notes - "Hillside cultivated with vines since the beginning of the 9th century by the Benedictines, hence its name "hill of the prelates", even if the origins are perhaps older, as evidenced by the presence of Roman markers. Gneiss soil, a baked granite rich in ferruginous elements (quartz, mica and feldspar), our plot is the southernmost, where the slopes are the steepest in places."
