Description
Tenuta di Arceno, home to Arcanum, lies in the southern Chianti Classico commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga near the medieval walled town of San Gusmè, on land whose viticultural roots trace back to the pre-Roman Etruscans and later to the Del Taja and Piccolomini families from the 16th century onward. Today the 2,500‑acre estate is owned by the Jackson family and farmed with a strong emphasis on sustainable practices, tailoring viticulture to 13 distinct soil types across 223 acres of vines, with extensive canopy management, careful parcel selection, and minimal chemical inputs to preserve biodiversity and express the character of Cabernet Franc–based, Bordeaux-style blends like Arcanum.
The 2012 Arcanum Toscana Rosso opens with generous aromas of violets, rose petals, ripe raspberry, and dark cherry, layered with Cabernet Franc’s signature herbal tones of sage, mint, and sweet oregano. On the palate it is full-bodied yet polished, offering plush flavors of ripe plum and blueberry dusted with dark chocolate, black pepper, licorice, and sweet tobacco, framed by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity that carry through a long, savory finish. A warm summer followed by a cooler harvest endowed the wine with both opulent fruit and firm structure, making this a Super Tuscan that is drinking beautifully now but still built for further evolution in the bottle.
