Description

Rosemary's Vineyard is named after the matriarch of the Talley family, Rosemary Talley. This vineyard surrounds her house and is one of very few vineyards in California that actually has an ocean view. This is the coolest site that we farm and lends itself to making truly world-class wines.

Rosemary’s Vineyard, planted in 1987 by Don Talley, began with Block 7, featuring the Wadenswil clone Pinot Noir on its own roots, a rarity in modern viticulture. Most vineyards today use phylloxera-resistant rootstock due to the devastating impact of the phylloxera pest. However, the original planting of own-rooted vines at Rosemary’s Vineyard has led to unique, high-quality expressions of Pinot Noir that are increasingly hard to find.

In 1994, Brian made the decision to expand Rosemary’s Vineyard by planting vines behind his parents' house. He made the decision to use rootstocks that were completely resistant to phylloxera, as opposed to AXR-1 or own-rooted plantings. The section of own-rooted Pinot Noir that Don planted in 1987 and the Wadenswil that Brian planted in 1995 have become the two core elements of the Rosemary’s Pinot Noir.

The 2023 Talley Rosemary’s Vineyard Pinot Noir shows classic cool‑climate Arroyo Grande elegance with vivid red fruit and floral lift. Expect aromas of fresh raspberry, cherry, and dried rose petals, leading to flavors in the red‑toned spectrum like red currant, blood orange, and pomegranate, all carried by bright, focused acidity and fine, ripe tannins. Critics also highlight spice, savory herbs, forest floor, and an herb‑tinged, long finish, giving the wine a Vosne‑Romanée‑like sense of complexity and aging potential.
