Description

Pale lemon-gold in the glass, this Puligny opens with aromas of citrus (lemon and lemon zest), white flowers, and fresh pastry, accented by hints of toasted almond and a light, chalky minerality. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, silky, and lively, combining ripe pear and crisp apple fruit with a clear mineral line and fine, refreshing acidity. The finish is long, clean, and dry, with persistent notes of citrus, orchard fruit, and stone, and a sense of precision that reflects its significant component of declassified premier cru Chalumeaux fruit.

Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy’s historic reference-point estates, with family roots going back to around 1730 and a modern renaissance beginning in 1947, when the late Hubert de Montille took over and chose to focus on estate-bottled wines expressing individual terroirs rather than selling to négociants. From its home base in Volnay, the domaine gradually rebuilt and expanded its holdings—first in Volnay and Pommard, later into Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Vosne-Romanée, and other top villages—under Hubert and now his son Etienne, while becoming known for restrained, ageworthy, terroir-driven wines that emphasize finesse, purity of fruit, and minimal intervention.
