Yamazaki is commenced by Shinjiro Torii in 1923 making it Japan's first commercial whisky distillery. Distillery lies on the foot of Mount Tennozan in southwestern Kyoto. It is under warm and humid climate which creates a particular character in maturation period. I would not be wrong if I told you that Yamazaki 18 changed the path of Japanese single malt whisky and started a new era. With the awards this whisky won, the publicity of Japanese whiskies has totally changed in a positive way and Japanese single malts started to be called as 'best whiskies in the world'. If I had to define Yamazaki 18 I could say it is the whisky where complexity meets balance. A rich orchard meets extreme oak note which is surprisingly not overwhelming. Thick and oily texture makes you feel every drop of the whisky with earthy notes, sherry details and green traces. A beautifully crafted, extreme spirit!
