Philipponnat is a French Champagne House with deep and historic family roots since 1522. By renewing its traditions to perpetuate the best, Philipponnat offers a distinctive vinous style and unmistakable wines, among which is the famous cuvée Clos des Goisses. The Philipponnat style relies on a balance between the intensity of fully-ripe fruit (Aÿ-region Pinot Noir and Côtes de Blancs Chardonnay), and a freshness derived from balanced usage of malolactic fermentations, moderate aging in wood, and low dosages.
The name of Royal Réserve goes back to the ancestors of the Philipponnat family, vineyard owners, wine-merchants and winemakers, suppliers to Louis XIV, magistrates and Royal Mayors of Ay. 65% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Meunier. First press juice of mainly Grand and Premier Crus grapes from the heart of the Champagne wine-growing area. 20 to 30% of reserve wines are aged in wooden barrels using the solera system to incorporate older wines without losing freshness. 5-7% still red Pinot Noir is added, usually from the Clos des Goisses.
