The Macallan Distillery is one of the legendary distilleries in Scotland, situated in Craigellachie, Moray.
In 1824 The Macallan Distillery started its life as The Elchies Distillery which was licensed to Alexander Reid. Especially after 1950's Macallan had a great rise in demand and production which led them to become one of the contenders in the world whisky market.
Macallan is well known for its fully sherry matured whiskies, although in the last decade they introduced the Macallan Fine Oak range, which featured plenty of Bourbon-matured malt.
In 2016 another style was just introduced with Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask which is a combination of American and European Sherry oak matured whiskies for a minimum of 12 years.
This whisky offers a more approachable palate to those drinkers who are looking for a lighter Macallan than the classic sherry dominated expressions.
As expected from American Sherry oak, the character has more crispy dried fruits with butterscotch and creamy vanilla.
