Laphroaig Distillery is located on the south coast of the Isle of Islay and is named for the area of land at the head of Loch Laphroaig.
It was found in 1815 by Alexander and Donald Johnston. who actually started farming on the same land in 1810. Farming was composed of feeding and trading of cattles, however Johnston Brothers were already on distilling illegally which became very famous in the area and since it was more profitable, in 1815 Laphroaig Distillery was officially announced.
In 1930s Bessie Williamson joined the distillery for a summer job but that summer extended to 40 summers which she became the manager after Ian in 1954. Prince Charles gave the Royal Warrant to Laphroaig in 1994 which was a moment of glory. In 2014 Beam Suntory took over the control of the distillery.
2015 was very important for the distillery since it was the 200th year of Laphroaig.
