This is not your typical Cotes-du-Rhone. It is rather sophisticated for the appellation with a heightened level of complexity thanks to its fruit source coming from vigneron, Jean David's certified organic vines in the Cotes-du-Rhone Villages of Seguret. Essentially this bottling is his "de-classified" Cotes-du-Rhone Villages Seguret that he bottles simply as Cotes-du-Rhone because he uses his younger vines that haven't yet reached the age of 50 (fruit from those 50+ year old vines go into his Cotes-du-Rhone Villages Seguret.) It is a blend of 55% Grenache, 20% Carignan, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise and 5% Mourvedre that was vinified and aged for one year in concrete tanks. Aromas on the nose offer scents of dried flowers and earth, while the fruit is abundant but not forward on the medium to full bodied palate with succulent flavors of wild red berries. The wine ends with a nice dose of earth and an otherwise clean and fresh finish of bright acidity.
