Lynn Penner-Ash has been making great Pinot Noir in the Willamette Valley since 1988 when she was the first woman to be hired as a winemaker in Oregon at Rex Hill Winery. A decade later, while still working as head winemaker and COO at Rex Hill, Lynn started her own label with her husband Ron, to produce small lots of Pinot Noir and Syrah. The Penner Ash wines were doing so well that she had to leave her post at Rex Hill in 2005 and focus solely on her wines. She has since expanded her repertoire to include Viognier and Riesling but her first love is Pinot Noir, and that's what she does best! This 2018 Estate Pinot was aged for 10 months in 27% new French oak, 35% one year-old French oak, 27% two year-old French oak, and 11% in neutral French oak. Lynn describes it as follows, "Ripe Summer fig and plum aromas layered with black cherry and baking spice jump to the nose; while black pepper and clove accent the vanilla wood notes. A structured finish creates a lasting impression that showcase this wine’s ageability."
