The Hourglass estate Napa Valley is more well known for its excellent Cabernet Sauvignon blends but they also make great Sauvignon Blanc as well. This 2016 is made up of a blend of grapes from two different vineyards; Larkmead Lane and Varozza in St. Helena. They also experimented with three different fermentations; stainless steel, new oak and seasoned oak and made seven distinctly different wines before putting the final blend together. The end result is a Sauvignon Blanc of good complexity, weight and great balancing acidity. Or as owner, Jeff Smith, describes the wine as follows, "primary aromas of lemon and lime zest, orange blossom and Granny Smith apples are followed on the palate with flavors of limeade, hay, white peach, pineapple and vanilla bean."
