Vietti is one of the classic old school Piemontese producers with a great heritage and reputation for producing legendary, traditionally crafted wines. Their Barolos are the most heralded but like any good producer in the region, they also make great Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and delicious Moscato d'Asti. The fruit for this lovely Moscato comes from 40 year old vines on their estate in Castiglione Tinella. Aromas on the nose are more peach and floral driven with, even as Vietti notes, a nice tinge of ginger, than apple or orange scented. The palate is light bodied and delicately toned with slightly frizzante bubbles that feel seamless and appropriate as opposed to harsh and intense. It finishes with medium acidity in a still very refreshing way. There are many Moscato d'Astis to choose from but this Vietti is definitely in the upper tier with a quiet elegance and complexity.
