Gamay is of course the grape of Beaujolais. However, Brick House owner and winemaker, Doug Tunnell felt that since the soils in his Ribbon Ridge vineyard are made up primarily of marine sediment with similar characteristics to those in Beaujolais, particularly the low pH and abundance of mica/silica, he decided to give it a try. It proved to be a smart move, as beyond his great Pinot Noirs, Brick House is widely admired for its charming Gamay Noir! And, we can see why, as this wine does speak very well to Beaujolais with its floral and peppery notes, light body and easy going tannins. We were thrilled to be able to get our hands on this wine but it won't last forever...
