This is the seventh straight vintage we've carried of Saracina's Unoaked Chardonnay and we are marveling at its incredible consistency. That probably has a lot to do with the vineyard sources which have been in the Fetzer family for over 30 years. Here again, this 2017 is a blend of 96% Chardonnay and 4% Viognier, which comes from their estate vines in Russian River Valley. The Viognier adds a nice stone fruit character, but without the heavy, often oily texture of many California Viogniers, and lets the clean pear and apple flavors take center stage. Saracina refers to this bottling as "naked Chardonnay with pure fruit character and bright acidity, echoing Old World unoaked counterparts from northern Italy and Burgundy’s Chablis."
