Painted Rock has been on our wine radar for several years now, and the 2017 Red Icon, their flagship estate wine, is on a par with superb reds from much better known wine regions in other parts of the world. The 2017 is a blend of 38% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, and 2% Syrah. If not for that smidgen of Syrah in the blend this would be a classic Bordeaux blend. Deep and complex, Red Icon is delicious now, but clearly has the structure and balance to cellar well for 10-15 years. Decanter Magazine's "Canadian Wine of the Year" for 2017.
