Leah Jorgensen is a passionate free spirit who is also a very talented winemaker. Her source of inspiration is the Loire Valley and she is making some of the best Cabernet Franc in that classic style as we've found in the States. For this 2016 vintage, she sourced grapes from two L.I.V.E. Certified vineyards in southern Oregon; Crater View Ranch and Sundown Vineyard. And, she aged the wine in “mostly aged French oak barrels, along with some stainless steel, to tone down the intensity from the skin and wood tannins” and only made 273 cases.
As only Leah can, here is her very entertaining way to describe this delicious bottle, “this wine always begins with the most lovely perfumed notes, expressive, fresh, bright, vibrant - always with intense floral aromas, sweet fruit and spice. A bursting bouquet of rose petals, hibiscus, violets, carnations - I love the feminine beauty. But, then, another swirl of the glass offers concentrated, sweet fruits of ripe cherries, cassis, brambles, black berries, then heads into a woodsy spectrum of cherry tobacco, cigar box, sweet birch bark, the distinctive spicy-citrus aroma of black walnut leaves, and then finishes with spicy, earthy notes of cloves, eucalyptus, musk, and mushroom. On the palate, this is a dry, astringent wine with ripe fruit flavors of black cherries, black currants, cherry tobacco, anise, spice, and gets very savory with roasted pepper, and black pepper on the finish. It’s rich with firm tannins on the finish, yet elegant and balanced - this wine will age gracefully.
