We have sold Heron wines for several years now because we haven't found a better source for affordable, well made wines from California. They are staples in our $12/under section and we go through them at quite a clip! This 2016 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon has all the aspects one would expect from the varietal, a deep dark red color, classic flavors of blackberry and red currants and medium-to-firm tannins on the finish. The fruit was sourced from Mendocino County (50%), Pope Valley in Napa County (30%) and Clarksburg (20%) in the Sacramento Valley. That is the secret to winemaker, Laley Heron's success - her ability to blend fruit from different and varied sites into approachable, easy drinking gems. Heron doesn't own any vineyards but contracts with trusted growers in mostly dry-farmed, certified organic or biodynamic, or at least sustainable sites.
