The Two Old Dogs Sauvignon Blanc was made using purchased grapes from the Mello Vineyard on the valley floor of Yountville that includes two different Sauvignon clones as well as the Sauvignon Musqué clone which adds more aromatic lift. This 2016 vintage also includes grapes from a vineyard in Mendocino County ‘for added crispness’. The final wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged on its lees for several weeks before being filtered for bottling in February 2017. 440 cases produced. We liked the added concentration from the extended lees contact which also contributes to its subtle complexity. As winemaker, winemaker Michael Trujillo notes, “this wine is well balanced, there are no hollow points. It is both rich and crisp and will mellow out throughout its life in the bottle, and will be best if consumed within the next one to two years. The Sauvignon Musqué adds a good weight to the body, with flavors of wet stone, minerality and melon, but the finish is crisp and invigorating and makes you want another sip!"
