The fruit that went into this 2016 Chardonnay was sourced primarily from the Benovia 'Martella' estate vineyard, as well Zio Tony Ranch. The grapes were whole cluster pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts, and the final wine was aged in 31% new French oak barrels. The folks at Benovia are really proud of this vintage and describe it as follows, "bursting with aromas of William pear, tangerine and toasted hazelnuts. The nose is filled with white peach and acacia blossom, knit together by bright acidity and a long-complex finish. Barrel fermentation and oak aging for 12 months have added hints of toasted almond, and spice cake to a subtle minerality on the finish." Mary Dewane and Joe Anderson named their Sonoma wine estate after their respective fathers, Ben Dewane and Novian Anderson, who never met but shared the same morals and values with which they raised their respective families. Joe & Mary acquired the Cohn Vineyard in Healdsburg first and then brought in a third partner, famed winemaker, Mike Sullivan when they established a winery in Russian River Valley. The Benovia team sources fruit from their now three estate vineyards (Martella and Tilton Hill) as well as other select Sonoma sites, producing limited bottlings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Grenache.
