Napa Valley Cabernet doesn't get much better than when made by the so very capable hands of the folks at Pride Mountain Vineyards. And, as far as vintages go, 2014 doesn't get much better either. Thus, the combined result of the 2014 Cabernet from Pride is off the charts, both for its drinkability now (with some decanting), and for its great potential for long term aging. The wine is made up of fruit sourced 59% from the Napa County side of their estate and 41% from the Sonoma side for a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Here is how winemaker, Sally Johnson describes it, "the final blend expresses ripe fruit notes ranging from blackberry to plum and cassis, as well as nuances of bay laurel, chocolate, black tea, brown sugar, graphite and crushed rose petal. The texture in the mouth is definitely that of a mountain wine, with size and concentration to balance the richness and opulence of its round mid-palate." And what a treat to get all that in a cute little half bottle!
