Dick Ponzi is the godfather of the Willamette Valley and with a few of his early colleagues back in the 1970s, is essentially responsible for the excellent reputation the region holds now. His daughter, Luisa is just as important in today's Oregon wine industry and is an incredibly talented winemaker who has been at the helm in the cellar her father created for years. What stands out most about Ponzi wines is their impressive consistency vintage after vintage. And this 2015 Classico Pinot Noir is no exception. It was aged for 11 months in 35% new French oak barrels and as Luisa explains, it features "notes of hickory, white pepper and blackberry bramble erupt from the fragrant nose. Lavender, dark chocolate and sarsaparilla follow, leading to a lush mouth of dark cherry and velvety soft tannins balanced with juicy acidity. The finish lingers tinged with red fruit." It's another wonderful Pinot Noir in a long line of Ponzi Pinot Noir!
