We were first introduced to the wines of Peter Dipoli with his “Iugum” red which is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Now, we are enjoying the brilliant Sauvignon Blanc he calls, 'Volgar, so we have purchased two of the only three wines he produces! Sauvignon Blanc from Alto Adige typically expresses a special personality from other parts of the world where it's grown. The aromas and flavors are more herbal and white fruited in tone yet most of all, Sauvignon Blanc takes on incredible minerality that speaks to the mountainous, high altitude environment from where it comes. Not a lot of Peter's wines get to the States but we plan to feature this beauty for as long as possible! Peter Dipoli was born in the village of Laives, in the Province of Bolzano in Alto Adige. Raised in a farming family, Peter studied Viticulture at San Michele all’Adige High School and worked in a research lab for five years before returning home to his father’s small wine estate. He founded Peter Dipoli Wines in 1987 and re-planted his father’s Schiava vines to Sauvignon Blanc because he knew the high elevation would offer a longer growing season and still allow the grape to retain its natural acidity.
