This 2016 "Golden Slope" Chardonnay from Liquid Farm has a lot going on. It has a wonderfully silky texture and a rounded mouthfeel but still shows excellent balancing acidity. It really does evoke the great Chardonnays of Burgundy's Cote d'Or (or Golden Slope) for which it is named. Liquid Farm owners, Nikki and Jeff Nelson, and winemaker, James Sparks, more eloquently describe the wine as having, "subtle aromas of raw honey, beeswax, baked sourdough and white flowers. The palate gives flavors of quince, tangelo, and creme fraiche with subtle hints of nutmeg and cardamom. A very long, lingering finish with flavors of marzipan and green pineapple that leaves your mouth-popping and (at least for us!) craving another sip." The Nelsons had the name “Liquid Farm” before they even bottled their first wine. It was the perfect way to communicate their goal to “create awareness about what happens above ground and below ground, and tell the story of how both are inextricably linked to wine. Wine is, after all, a product of the earth and the human touch. It is Liquid from Farming.” They produce very limited quantities of excellent Chardonnays from the cool climate appellation Santa Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County.
