La Raia Azienda Agricola Biodinamica is a Demeter certified biodynamic farm in the heart of the hills of Gavi in Piemonte. The Rossi Cairo family acquired the 180 hectare property in 2003, then set out to create their ideal ecologically minded wine estate by rejuvenating the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming practices and building a state of the art cellar . Today, the family produces three different Gavi bottlings and two Barbera from their 45 hectares of vines. This 2016 Gavi DOCG is an impressively complex wine for the money and shows off all those healthy, organic grapes in a bright, shiny way. Fermented in stainless steel then left on its lees for four months, the nose exudes lots of appealing minerality as well as pretty flora aromas. The medium bodied palate is well balanced with subtle flavors of crisp apple and the wine ends with clean, vibrant acidity, and that wonderful minerality.
