Given our (or at least 'my') intense crush on anything Domaine Faury produces, it's no surprise that this beautiful Condrieu is just as appealing as their amazing Syrah bottlings. The Viognier grape, whose birthplace is the tiny, steep appellation of Condrieu in the northern Rhone Valley, can deliver some of the prettiest aromas in wine. Fetching scents of stone fruits, white flowers, honey and citrus are commonly found in Viognier yet it takes a really talented winemaker to deliver that aromatic profile in a more subtle, less intense way. Lionel Faury does just that with this 2015 which was fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged on its lees for 10 months in 60% stainless steel, 10% new French oak barrels and 30% in 2-5 year old barrels. With a nicely even keeled medium body, Faury's gorgeous Viognier fruit lines the palate with a grace and balance we don't see very often.
