Description

This 2014 Cuvee Schiste Blanc is a blend of 40% Jacquere, 30% Roussanne, 20% Pinot Gris and 10% Mondeuse Blanche. It was fermented on indigenous yeasts in 2-3 year old French oak barrique barrels and aged there for nine months before bottling. The grapes come from the Coteau de Cevins site, one of the two vineyards planted by the dedicated group behind Domaine des Ardoisieres on steep, rocky soils that have been farmed biodynamically since the beginning. Think of it like the big brother to the Silice Blanc with more distinctly mineral driven notes and complexity for the long haul. Like all Domaine des Ardoisieres wines, it is impeccably balanced and shows true panache in capturing the mountain terroir of their corner in the French Alps.

Brice Omont, a native of Champagne, has been the winemaker since 2005 and is today considered one of the most innovative and exciting winemakers in France. He has elevated the wines to an extraordinary level, using native yeast fermentations and very little new oak to capture the unique terroir and incredible minerality of this special place in the Alps. The total production is also very low with only about 500 cases of each wine which are parceled out to eager accounts in France and the US.
